Jimmer Fredette has finally fought his way back into the NBA and will sign with Knicks.

It’s finally Jimmer Time.

Former NCAA Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette will sign a 10-day contract with the Knicks on Saturday, sources confirmed from an ESPN report, representing the 26-year-old’s first call-up to the big club after he spent most of the season in the Westchester D-League affiliate.

The Knicks will slide him into their open roster spot after they return from Saturday night’s game in Minnesota, meaning Fredette will play twice more with Westchester tonight and Sunday. Fredette, a star at BYU and 10th overall pick in the 2011 draft, sputtered as a pro and bounced around four teams, most recently with the Spurs before he was waived in preseason.

While always a solid shooter, Fredette’s struggles have been on the defensive end. He was the MVP of the D-League All-Star game last week in Toronto.

Jimmer Fredette was the No. 10 pick of the Bucks in the 2011 NBA Draft.

The Knicks recently called up another member of the Westchester Knicks – Thanasis Antetokounbo – but he was released after the 10-day contract expired after playing just six minutes.

“There are players we’ve kept our eye on that we might bring in,” Kurt Rambis said on Thursday. “So we’ve know we’ve got that open roster spot and we’re looking at guys who can possibly come in and help us out or we can take a better look at in practice and see if they fit in with everybody else. Whether they play or not, we’re just bringing guys in to get a better look at.”

Fredette, who was once called “unbelievable” by Barack Obama, averaged 29 points per game and once scored 52 during his senior season at BYU. He can make his debut Monday at home against the Raptors, then get four more games before his first 10-day contract expires. After that, the Knicks can offer him one more 10-day contract before having decide whether to sign him for the remainder of the season.
